Have you been staring at a big, blank wall in your home, wondering how to fill it? You’re not alone!

Not only is that one of the most common decorating questions we get during our Design Helpline, it’s also one *we* faced when we moved into our new office space! Want to know how *we* solved our big blank wall problem?

Like a LOT of our clients, we were on a budget, and we wanted to make the wall feel inviting and interesting without spending a bunch of money or time on it.

Before I show you the results, let’s show you where the WHOLE room started – it was a bit of a brown dungeon when we first moved in! 😬

How to fix a dark room and make a Seriously Happy space!

It really was *that* dark! And just brown brown brown!

But we fixed it! πŸ˜ƒ

New area rugs, bright curtains, and (most importantly) *new light bulbs* completely transformed the room into one we enjoy using as a team! (Seriously, the light bulbs you use can make a HUGE difference to creating the right vibe in a room! If you want to more about, check out this post on understanding lumens and kelvins. πŸ’‘)

So what about that blank wall?

Fix a big blank wall with mirrors and wall decals like Seriously Happy Homes

We love wallpaper, but didn’t want to invest in professional installation and didn’t have the time to tackle that project ourselves. Instead, we created a wallpaper effect using these super affordable wall decals (affectionality called “wall tattoos” in our office) and hung four square Nissedal mirrors from good ol’ Ikea across the wall, adding both texture and openness to the room. πŸ˜€

(Pro tip – don’t get these if you can’t pick them up directly from your local Ikea. They weren’t available at our local store so we had them shipped – we had to order NINE of them just to get four that weren’t shattered. πŸ˜• Ikea shipped new ones at no charge to us { thank you Ikea πŸ™ }Β but tossing FIVE mirrors in the trash didn’t feel great. )

The decals were easy to apply and stick *very* well – we’re seriously happy with the results and actually enjoy working in the space now – yea! πŸŽ‰
