Bringing the Outside in: A Beautiful Northwest Guest Bath

We had so much fun helping this client with three bathing spaces: the master bath, an in-home spa, and the guest bath featured here…

When we met this space it had once-pretty wall paper that was now peeling off the walls, and both the vanity and tub area were not only plain, but plainly stuck in the 80s with laminate counters, shiny brass fixtures, and 4×4 white tile. The clients wanted to create a textural, zen space for their guests to enjoy, a design that would elevate the space and feel organic and inviting.

There was no need to change theย footprint of the space, this was just a matter of freshening up all the surfaces. Because they wanted a natural feeling we choose green hemp grasscloth for the wall covering, a brown quartz counter that evoked the look of a natural limestone, and bronze fixtures to create an organic, warm, spa-like environment. It created a perfect spot to feature some of the homeowners natural stone specimen collection!

On the shower side we needed to mirror all that organic goodness, so we stripped out that old white 4×4 tile….ย and replaced it with a deep chocolate brown tile, punctuated with a waterfall accent of small natural pebbles! While at first the client was a little nervous about installing dark shower wall tile in a little bath, they discovered that the brightness of the floor, tub, and wall paper more than balanced the deep color of the tile (not to mention that we had a skylight in this bathroom that let us be more bold with our color and contrast choices!).

When complete we’d successfully designed a cozy, warm, zen space that was a perfect place for their guests to relax, and a compliment to the other rooms in their home.
